AS TOLD BY DAVID NINOMIYA
A few days pass, and I figure I should try to give her a regular kiss. I think it was just after our lunch recess, and we were at our lockers in the B-Building hallway at Kalani High School. I'm kind of nervous about this, cause I don't know the protocol for these kinds of things.
I figure no guts, no glory, and the best way would probably be just to go up to her and kiss her. I like turn to her and lean forward and give her a kiss. Like I said, this was my first attempt at doing this, and being a few inches taller than her, I kinda miss. I end up kissing Connie on the nose.
Apparently she was totally not expecting this cause she gave me this really shocked and disgusted look and proceeded to run away. At this point my self-esteem wasn't doing so well. From what she told me later, she ran to her Chem Lab and wiped her mouth off with a bunch of paper towels.
Another few days go by, and we meet up again at our High School hangout, the Kaimuki Library. It's where all the cool Kalani nerds would hang out at. My friend Victor and I were at one of the tables, discussing something or other. Anyway, Connie comes by and like takes something off my bag, like a key chain that was on my bag.
I think at this point, rather than follow her out, Victor and I made a bet as to whether she would come back and return the item, or just stay out there. I bet she would return it the next day, but she came back a few minutes later, so I was out $1. She says she wanted to talk to me about something, so we go outside, leaving Victor alone with his brand new dollar bill.
She just wanted to tell me that she was a bit sorry for running out the other time, and I should try kiss her again. I did, and she didn't run away that time, yay. However, she later told me that I only kissed her for a few seconds, which apparently was too short or something. I tell you, I can't win. Anyway, if you ever hear someone talk about how a person's first kiss is a magical experience or something, call them a liar and punch them for me, thanks.
